The guy on the right is Josh--he's one of Betty and Reuben's kids that hangs around the volunteers a lot. We do puzzles, play cards, etc. Those are their school uniforms.

The doors to our two examination rooms are on the right. You can hardly see the second door; it's back there by the storage closet (the storage closet/records room is actually quite a bit bigger than it looks from this picture with all the beams laying there).

They are so cute! I hope that you are learning a lot there. Tell me more about the school- what kinds of things do they do, what kinds of stuff do they need? (How expensive is it to ship stuff there? You might remember me saying that we're doing a school supplies drive...) And, what about the culture? How similar/different is it there?
Ashley!
They are in desperate need of pens and pencils. There are so few often they have to share. They are learning practicaly at the grade-level equivalent of schools in the US. Their grade 4 and 6 curriculum looks the same as that in the Cleveland Public Schools. Backpacks would also be very, very useful because many of them are second/third-hand.
Crayons and art supplies wouldn't really be useful, neither would folders. However, outdoor games would be excellent...jump ropes, balls--anything that works on hard dirt playground field.
The school just went to a district competition for reciting/acting out poems and won 3 firsts and one second place. They go to the provincial competition next Monday and I think I'm going to go with them!
It's probably pretty expensive to ship things. Look at the link to the Volunteer Kenya website I've included on my blog main page--there should be a link.
Oh, the second grade class has pen-pals in Michigan!
